Vernon D. Rowe, M.D.
Founder and CEO
Dr. Rowe is also founder and CEO of the MidAmerica Neuroscience Institute
in Lenexa, KS, which includes a multi-subspecialty neurology practice
and a non-profit research foundation. He has over thirty years experience
in research and medical practice, including 25 years of running a successful
business. He earned his B.S. and M.D. degrees at Duke University, and
completed his neurology training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Before founding his private practice, Dr. Rowe spent three years as
a Research Associate at the National Institutes of Health and five years
on the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, doing
research in developmental neurobiology. He is the author of multiple
publications in the medical and scientific literature. He is board certified
in neurology, sleep medicine, electromyography, electroencephalography,
and MRI neuroimaging.
Elizabeth S. Rowe, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Research
Prior to helping to co-found Verrow, Dr. Rowe spent 10 years at the
MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation, doing research and development
in the area of multiple sclerosis, and developing strategies for commercialization
of new therapies for neurological diseases. Prior to that she spent
more than twenty years on the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical
School and the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center. In
those positions she carried out peer-review funded research in the area
of physical biochemistry and alcohol-brain effects, and she is the author
of numerous peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Rowe received her B.A. in chemistry
and Ph.D. in biochemistry at Duke University, and postdoctoral training
at Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University. She earned her
M.B.A. from the University of Kansas.
Gerold L. Mosher, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President of Product Development
Dr. Mosher received his B.S. in Pharmacy, and his M.S. and Ph.D.
degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, from the University of Kansas in
Lawrence, and is a registered pharmacist. He has twenty-five years of
experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working at both large pharmaceutical
and start-up companies, most recently as Senior Director of Product
Development at CyDex Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Mosher is a leading expert
in cyclodextrin chemistry and drug development using cyclodextrins.
He has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and is
an inventor on six patents and another ten patents pending in the U.S.
He has extensive experience in pharmaceutical product development, with
particular strengths in I.P. (intellectual property development and
prosecution), C.M.C. (chemistry, manufacturing and controls), and preclinical
and early clinical development.
John A. Hunter, Psy.D.
Vice President of Clinical Affairs
Dr. Hunter has for 8 years been Institute Coordinator for the MidAmerica
Neuroscience Institute, where he administers multiple clinical trials
alongside in-house basic science research into the causes and mechanisms
of neurological diseases and their therapies. Dr. Hunter received his
doctorate in clinical psychology from the Forest Institute in Chicago,
and after several years of private practice he began a career in the
management of healthcare. He has been a business consultant to both
public and private companies. Prior to joining the Institute, he was
the chief executive officer and hospital administrator of a hospital
in Kansas City, Missouri. He has published research on multiple sclerosis,
sleep medicine, psychological assessments, and stroke.
Consultant Bios
Geoffrey O. Hartzler, M.D.
Dr. Hartzler gained international prominence as a cardiologist during
23 years of practice in interventional cardiology. He served most
recently (from 1980 to 1995) as a Consulting Cardiologist with the
MidAmerica Heart Institute of St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas
City, Missouri. Dr. Hartzler was the co-founder and director of four
medical device companies, including Ventritex Inc. and IntraLuminal
Therapeutics, Inc., and served as a consultant and/or director to
seven additional companies. Regarded as one of the pioneers of interventional
cardiology, Dr. Hartzler has published numerous articles in medical
and scientific journals on various aspects of cardiology, and has
been a frequent lecturer on these topics.
Peter M. McCullough, M.D., M.P.H.
An internationally recognized authority on the impact of contrast-induced
acute kidney injury on cardiology outcomes, Dr. McCullough brings
crucial expertise to Verrow's clinical development plan for a kidney-safe
contrast agent. He is based at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak, Michigan, where he is Chief of the Division of Preventive Medicine
and Medical Director of Preventive Cardiology. He has widely published
in the literature, with over 300 peer reviewed manuscripts. He completed
his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
School in Dallas, residency at the University of Washington in Seattle,
cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital, and master’s
degree in public health at the University of Michigan.
Michael Beckloff
Beckloff Associates, founded in 1976, is now a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Cardinal Health. It has an established tradition of assisting pharmaceutical
and biotechnology clients in bringing new products to market, and
assists Verrow in the area of regulatory affairs. Beckloff earned
his B.S. degree in Cellular Biology from the University of Kansas
and is a member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering
(ISPE), the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS),
Drug Information Association (DIA), the Regulatory Affairs Professionals
(RAPS), and the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA).
Elliot M. Frohman, Ph.D., M.D.
Dr. Frohman, Verrow's consultant for multiple sclerosis, is a national
thought leader in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis.
He has designed and participated in many clinical trials in MS, and
has authored numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr.
Frohman holds the Irene Wadel and Robert I. Atha, Jr., Distinguished
Chair in Neurology, and the Kenney Marie Dixon-Pickens Distinguished
Professorship in Multiple Sclerosis Research at the University of
Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He received his M.D.
and Ph.D. degrees at the University of California in Irvine, and his
neurology training at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center.
